What You Need to Know About Peugeot Keys

Mechanical

Peugeot began their manufacturing business in the early 1800s by using kitchen equipment and hand-tools. The company started out by making umbrella frames and wire wheels before moving to bicycles. They were the first company to use rubber tires in 1892.

In 1900, they added a range of cars to their production line. These early models were horseless carriages in appearance, driven by a tiller. During this period, Peugeot also branched out into motorcycles.

Modern Peugeot keys are more intricate than the mechanical metal pieces. They also have a transponder, which adds additional security to stop car thieves from stealing hotwires from the vehicle. If the key is damaged or lost it will not be able start the car, and it will display a warning message on the dashboard.

If you notice a yellow warning light that looks like waves with a thermometer floating above that is displayed on your dashboard, it's most likely that your Peugeot telling you that your engine is getting too hot. This could be the result of leaks in the cooling system, or a sudden acceleration. If this occurs, you should stop and let the engine cool down. If this persists then you should seek help from a Peugeot mechanic or dealership as soon as you can.

A red warning light that has two cars and a star under the red outline is a common issue. This means your Peugeot's forward collision detection system has to be activated.

Transponder

Before transponder key technology was widely used in automobiles, it was fairly easy for thieves to steal cars. They could just push the ignition switch to the off position and then turn it up. But, this is no longer possible as most modern cars are equipped with an anti-theft device that has an electronic security chip inside the key.

The microchip in the key is a miniaturized device that has a non-volatile (meaning that it doesn't erase when power is cut) memory. The chip contains a unique number which is used as an "password" for the purpose of starting the engine. When the key is inserted into the ignition, the chip relays the password to the receiver in the immobilizer of your car. If the code is entered correctly, your car will start, and you'll go on your way.

If you lose your transponder's keys, you'll need to visit an experienced locksmith who can replace it. They will use a special tool to read the required frequency from the chip of your transponder and then design a new one for you. This is usually a lot cheaper than visiting the dealership where you purchased your vehicle. Be sure to check that the locksmith has this tool. Otherwise, you could end spending more than you would to duplicate your keys. Ask the locksmith if they use high-quality blanks for your car model.

Distance Learning

Peugeot cars are equipped with an immobiliser system based on synchronisation with a tiny glass chip inside the key, which is encased with a unique code. Whenever the key is inserted into the ignition the code is read by the immobiliser in the car to determine whether it is the correct one or not. If the chip isn't synchronised, then the car will not start and the engine will shut down. If the code matches, the engine will start.
